I have been working on the provide profile pages for the compare the providers section for the past few weeks. I spent some time looking for e-commerce and credit card icons. I have come across a number of different sites that have great credit card and e-commerce icon sets. For anyone creating an online store I know these icon sets will be useful so I decided to share them.
Officially Branded Icons
Visa
Visa provide a number of visa logos in variety of sizes. They also have visa credit card graphics that the refer to as "Card Art". I do not see any usage guidelines for the icons listed on the page so I am not sure what their terms of use are.MasterCard
MasterCard provide a selection of "Brand Materials" which are logos and icons representing their various brands. They come in a variety of formats and sizes but you have to register with MasterCard before you can download then.PayPal
PayPal provide 3 different types of icons/images.- Acceptance mark - icons to show that you accept PayPal
- Solution Graphics - icons to show that by accepting PayPal you can accept various Credit Cards.
- Additional Options - icons to show that you accept and endorse PayPal
SagePay
Sagepay provide a number of credit card icons, PayPal images and 3D secure images. The do not provide different sizes or file formats. There does not appear to be any usage policy or usage agreement listed for them. You can download them directly from their website.Custom Credit Card Icons
Chalkwork Payments Icon Set
A set of Online Payment Icons featuring 21 base icons and 105 variations. They come in 3 sizes and 6 formats - transparent PNG, TIF, GIF, BMP, WINDOWS ICO and Mac ICNS. Chalkwork say the icons are "completely free for personal and commercial use" although their Chalkwork license terms apply. (You cannot sell or distribute them and other such conditions)

VirtualLnk - 3D Credit Card Icons
A freeware collection of credit card icons provided by VirtualLnk. They provide 6 icons in a 6 formats - BMP, GIF, ICN, ICO, JPG and PNG. They come in 2 sizes (48x48 & 72x27) with regular and disabled versions of each icon. VirtualLink say the icons are freeware but you must have the permission from the respective owners (Visa, MasterCard, Amex etc.) to display their logos on your website.
FineIcons - Credit Card Icon Set
20 icons of credit cards including major cards and alternative payment methods such as e-gold, neteller etc. They even have a Laser icon which will be useful for Irish merchants. These icons are subject to Creative Commons licence: Attribution-Share Alike 2.0 UK: England & Wales. This means you are free to use them for both personal and commercial work, as long as you do not sell them.

E-Commerce Icons
The icons discussed in the previous two sections are specific to payment methods. When you are building an e-commerce site it is useful to have icons to help guide the user through the checkout process. Examples of such icons include currency symbols, payment methods, add to cart and checkout. The two icon sets presented below provide a range of icons that will meet the needs of most e-commerce websites.
Starfish Web Consulting
Star Fish Web Consulting a UK company have provided 32 free glossy e-commerce icons. They provide the vector files for all icons so they can be re-sized as needed.

Web Designer Depot
The set contains 200 free e-commerce icons. They say that the icons are completely free for personal and commercial use. Vector files for all icons are provided so they can be resized as needed. I found this icon set with iconfinder.net and those of you who have viewed the provider comparison section will recognise them.
Finally I want to mention one last icon related site - Iconfinder.net is a website that allows you to search for icons. They cover more than just e-commerce icons so you can find an icon for almost any topic. The website providers a great interface for searching and browsing icon sets.
